For many people (even those in excellent physical shape) exercise isn’t always the answer for stubborn loose skin. With a mini tummy tuck, you can address excess skin below the belly button, without having to go through a full abdominoplasty. The mini tummy tuck is also a great option for correction of large c-section scars resulting in a belly fold.
In contrast to a traditional tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) surgery, a mini tummy tuck will only remove the excess fat and skin just above the pubic area. This surgery leaves a smaller scar than a drain-free tummy tuck, and has an even faster recovery time.

A mini tummy tuck is typically performed under general anesthesia although in some cases the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation. Your surgeon will help you determine the best type of anesthesia based on the procedure and your specific needs.

There are many differences between a mini tummy tuck and a full tummy tuck. The main difference is that with a mini tummy tuck the area at and above the navel is not treated, so there is no scar around it or repositioning of the navel. Other differences include:

Mini Tummy Tuck Risks & Complications
There are some complications associated with thigh lift surgery that any person thinking about choosing a thigh lift should be aware of. Bleeding and formation of fluid under the skin that leads to swelling can occur. Migration of scars and infection are also possible. Although complications following Thigh Lift are infrequent; the following may occur:
Bleeding
Bleeding, which in rare instances could require hospitalization and blood transfusion. Blood clots may form under the skin and require drainage.
Asymmetry
This typically corrects as swelling resolves. In rare cases significant asymmetry may remain.
Dizziness
Dizziness may occur during the first week following liposuction surgery particularly upon rising from a lying or sitting position. If this occurs, extreme caution may be exercised while walking. Do not drive a car if dizziness is present.
Objectionable scarring
Objectionable scarring is rare because of the small size of the incisions used in liposuction surgery, but scar formation is possible.
Deep Venous Thrombosis
Deep Venous Thrombosis, Pulmonary Embolism and Fat Embolism may occur. A clot or a fat globule may get lodged in the blood vessels in your lungs leading to poor oxygenation.
Feeling short of breath, unable to count loudly to 10 without pausing, and pain inside your lungs may be early signs of an embolism.
If this happens, please notify us immediately, or go to your nearest emergency room to be scanned.
If a DVT or pulmonary embolism occurs, you will be placed on blood thinners and followed by a Hematology specialist until cured.
If a Fat Embolism happens, this may be a fatal event. To minimize this risk we take every possible precaution, specifically we avoid injecting fat into the butt muscle or under the muscle (which is common practice in some Caribbean or South American countries)
Abdominal perforation
Abdominal perforation may also occur in rare instances. The risk of these specific complications is increased in patients with increased BMI and previous abdominal surgeries.
Early signs of an abdominal perforation included worsening abdominal pain all over
Pain worse with movement, improved when staying completely still
No passing gas, no bowel movement (although these may also happen as a normal side-effect of opioid pain meds)

Infection
Infection is rare but may occur and treatment with antibiotics and/or drainage may be required. In rare instances surgery may be required for severe infection (when abscesses form or necrotizing fasciitis develops.) Numbness or increased sensitivity of the skin over treated areas may persist for months. Localized areas of numbness or increased sensitivity may be permanent.
EARLY SIGNS OF AN IMPENDING INFECTION include night sweats, chills. An area of the butt may be warmer, more tender, more red than the rest.

Skin irregularities
Skin irregularities, lumpiness, hardness and dimpling may result; some problems disappear with time and from massage, and other problems may persist and additional treatments may be necessary.
