Dr. Martin Jugenburg, MD, FRCSC
Meet Dr. Martin Jugenburg. He's a board-certified plastic surgeon, founder of the Toronto Cosmetic Surgery Institute, and the kind of surgeon who doesn't just follow the dogma of plastic surgery. He innovates.
With twenty years of experience and thousands of surgeries under his belt, Dr. Jugenburg brings exactly the expertise you want in the operating room. He trained at the University of Toronto, completed a rigorous five-year plastic surgery residency at the University of Manitoba, and was selected for a fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where he trained in advanced reconstructive and microsurgery. During his time in New York, he also learned from some of the most well-known aesthetic surgeons in the United States. He's certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensed in Ontario, Kuwait, Dubai, and Florida. He operates across Toronto, Dubai, Kuwait, and Miami, where patients travel from around the world to see him.
His practice focuses on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast, body, and face. But what actually sets him apart is his philosophy: safety first, always. And here's the thing people don't always understand about that approach. For Dr. Jugenburg, safety isn't about being conservative or playing it safe in the traditional sense. It's the opposite. He believes that rigorous safety discipline is what actually allows you to innovate responsibly. That means constant self-reflection, learning from every procedure and outcome, and turning complications into learning opportunities rather than disasters. Better safe than sorry isn't about fear. It's about prioritizing patient safety over convenience.
Early in his career, he expanded the scope of his practice into areas that other plastic surgeons felt were outside their domain or not worthy of their attention: various cosmetic procedures, improving existing surgical techniques, social media education on surgical decision-making. Most of his peers dismissed these directions. Now they're everywhere. That's not luck. That's evidence-based thinking combined with the conviction to lead rather than follow.
Plastic surgery changes every year, and Dr. Jugenburg stays at the front of it. He attends and presents at major international meetings, teaches other surgeons on his techniques and safety protocols, and publishes in peer-reviewed journals. Much of his current research focuses on what his patients care about most: keeping cosmetic surgery as safe as possible. He maintains an active presence on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook where he talks about surgical safety, honest outcomes, and the real decision-making process patients should be having.
He's obsessed with catching complications early. He values data over opinion. He'd rather give you direct feedback than tell you what you want to hear. And he practices under the rigorous standards of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
What patients can expect: straightforward communication, surgery planned around the individual patient, honest answers about what is and is not possible, and a team that is reachable before and after surgery.
