Thigh lift surgery in Toronto

An introduction to thigh lift surgery

Thigh lift surgeries can completely alter the contour of the thigh – removing both excess fat and sagging skin from the thigh that creates an undesirable silhouette, and sculpting the thigh area so that it is far slimmer.  For women who feel unconfident because of excess fatty deposits in either the inner or outer thigh area, opting for a thigh lift with Dr.Jugenburg will both revolutionize the contour of your thighs and the way that you feel about your own body.

Dr. Jugenburg is highly skilled at performing the two varieties of thigh lift surgeries: inner thigh and outer thigh surgery. With inner thigh cosmetic procedures, the circumference of the inner thigh is reduced, creating a far leaner appearance. Outer thigh procedures are usually chosen by patients who have experienced great weight loss and have sagging skin on the outside of their thigh. This procedure removes the excess skin, and is often performed in tandem with butt lifts. The results are slimmer thighs that are unrecognizable from the thighs that once had excess fat and skin, creating a much improved appearance in clothing and significantly enhanced body confidence.

Reasons to consider a thigh lift

Our patients always make an informed decision before committing to thigh lift surgery with Dr. Jugenburg. Reasons for choosing thigh lift surgery typically include:

  • Sagging skin.  Liposuction is very effective for removing fatty deposits but it cannot remove excess skin. In order to contour the thighs, a thigh lift is a more appropriate cosmetic procedure.
  • Removal of excess fat.  For women who are unhappy with the shape of their inner thighs and wish to reduce the circumference of this area, a thigh lift is an effective way of removing excess fat and tissue.

Whatever your reasons for considering thigh lift surgery, you will have the opportunity to fully understand the procedure during a personal and private consultation with Dr. Jugenburg.

Thigh Lift Risks & Complications

Although complications following Thigh Lift are infrequent; the following may occur:

  1. Bleeding, which in rare instances could require hospitalization and blood transfusion. Blood clots may form under the skin and require drainage.
  2. Skin irregularities, lumpiness, hardness and dimpling may result; some problems disappear with time and from massage, but skin irregularities, hardness, lumps, dimpling or other problems may persist and additional treatments may be necessary.
  3. Infection is rare but may occur and, treatment with antibiotics and/or drainage may be required. In rare instances surgery may be required for severe infection (necrotizing fasciitis.)
  4. Wound dehiscence (wound opening) may occur and is generally allowed to heal on its own.
  5. Outpatient nursing may be required to assist with the wound care. You may be required to travel to a local clinic for daily wound care
  6. Skin blood supply can on rare instances be compromised, leading to infection or loss skin leaving an opening in your incision requiring potential revisions.
  7. Numbness of the skin over treated areas is common and persists for months. In extremely rare cases it may be permanent.
  8. Abnormal scarring or scar position is rare but is possible.
  9. Dizziness may occur during the first week following Thigh Lift surgery particularly upon rising from a lying or sitting position. If this occurs, extreme caution may need to be exercised while walking. Do not drive a car if dizziness is present.
  10. Deep Venous Thrombosis, Pulmonary Embolism and Fat Embolism may occur. The risk of these specific complications is increased in patients with increased BMI and previous arms surgeries. If left untreated they may be fatal.

Answering your questions about thigh lift surgery

  • If you have a generally stable weight but are unhappy with the sagging skin or excess fat in your inner or outer thighs, then thigh lift surgery could provide you with the results that you desire.

  • This depends on the type of thigh lift that you choose. During an inner thigh lift, Dr. Jugenburg will make an incision along your inner thigh and remove a wedge of excess skin and fat. For outer thigh surgery, an incision is made from the groin crease to the back. Excess skin, fat, and tissue is then removed directly from the outer thigh. The procedure should take 2-4 hours to complete and the patient will be under general anesthesia.

  • You may need to change your intake of certain medications before the procedure (and you will be advised about this personally), and you will need to stop smoking at least two weeks before the surgery in order to promote the fastest possible recovery.

  • Depending on the outcome of your surgery, you could either be discharged a few hours after surgery is complete, or you may have to stay within our facilities for 2-3 days. You will experience some mild to moderate pain for 1 week following the procedure, which can be controlled with medication. You will also have some swelling in the first few days, but this will completely disappear within 4-6 weeks. In 4-6 weeks, you will also be able to return to work and resume your normal life with your new slimmer thighs.

  • The incision is placed within the groin crease so it is strategically placed to be as inconspicuous as possible. This scar will also fade over time and will rarely migrate. Dr. Jugenburg understands the concerns that his patients have about scarring and is experienced at creating incisions that result in minimal scars.

  • There are some complications associated with thigh lift surgery that any person thinking about choosing a thigh lift should be aware of. Excessive bleeding and formation of fluid under the skin that leads to swelling can occur. Migration of scars and infection are also possible. Our supportive staff are always on hand to talk through all of the risks associated with thigh lift surgery and how we minimize those risks.
