A Breast Lift (Mastopexy) is a surgery to increase the size and shape of breasts that have lost their original volume and shape as a result of aging, breastfeeding, weight loss, or the natural changes that come with age. Various techniques are used to correct saggy, deflated or asymmetrical breasts.The surgery may be conducted by repositioning the areola and nipple, in addition to elevating the breast tissue and removing skin. Breast lift surgery is usually done on women who are experiencing discomfort or saggy breasts, or who would like to make their breasts bigger.
When choosing a breast lift surgery, it’s important to carefully consider your goals and needs. A breast lift procedure can include a breast augmentation for patients who wantthe ultimate transformation of their deflated and sagging breasts to youthful and voluminous breasts. Augmentation Mastopexy (or Breast Lift with implants) combines two surgeries that may involve reshaping and lifting the breasts in addition to adding volume to the breast size. Patients can maintain the same breast size they had prior to surgery or receive a natural breast volume smaller than their original breast size.
Types of incisions used for mastopexy
Anchor lift: For moderate to severe breast ptosis (sagging), anchor breast incision placement is a great option as it allows for the maximum amount of customised reshaping which produces the most dramatic results. Incisions are easily hidden within the breast fold.
Vertical lift: for moderate breast ptosis (sagging), the surgeon is able to even-out the breast by removing excess tissue or reshaping. Results are an improved shape of breast that is not achievable with a periareolar lift. Incisions will fade if thorough post-op wound care is followed.
Periareolar lift: for minimal breast ptosis (sagging) that requires 2cm max elevation. This involves the repositioning of the nipple, surrounding skin and breast tissue that provides an elevated and fuller appearance. The incision is made through the circumference of the areolar border resulting in minimal scarring.
